Livewell April 2021

Habitat Workday:  The habitat workday was another success this year.  The CA loaned us the barges and we used $220 of habitat funds to get the blocks and ties.  Thanks to John Shanahan and Tom Harris for coordinating that event and getting some great pricing on the blocks.  We placed about 100 trees in the large lake and another 50-60 in the small lake.  Over the past several years, on the small lake we have dumped the remaining blocks in one spot, has anyone found them on their electronics?  Hint:  not very far from the ramp.

Club Dues Time Again: Just a reminder that you must be a member in good standing (dues paid) to participate in the club activities.  The derbies will start this month.  In addition to your annual dues of $20, to be eligible to fish the derbies, members and guests must pay a one time $10 derby fee, which is a reduction from last year’s fee.  At the last meeting we also voted that a guest can fish their first derby for free.

Lake Cleanup Day:  On April 3 we had 8 members show up for the lake cleanup and we spent several hours picking up the trash that had accumulated.  Thanks to everyone who helped.  The CA was notified and mentioned they would give us a shout out in their next email to the CA membership.  Good Job guys!!

Spring Ice Breaker Party - The club will be holding its annual Ice Breaker Party on April 14th in the CA ballroom.  We will have a little bit of regular club business to take care of, but we don’t plan for it to interfere with dinner.  All members in good standing are welcome.  Because we had to cancel the Christmas party last year, we decided to cater the Ice Breaker, so just show up, no need to bring a side, but deserts are always welcome 😉 Cocktail hour starts at 6:00pm with dinner starting around 7:00pm.

2021 Monthly Fish Contest Began April 1st: The 2021 monthly fish contest is on!  There have been two reports of catfish over 40 lbs, (I have seen pictures of them) both would have made lake records, but one case the angler didn’t have a witness, in the other case the fish weight was witnessed but the witness didn’t know the angler!  New this year, the event is open to all CA members.

The minimum category fish weights are as follows:

·         Largemouth Bass = 4.00 lbs.

·         Hybrid Striped Bass = 4.00 lbs.

·         Catfish = 5.00 lbs.

·         Carp = 5.00 lbs.

·         Crappie = 0.7 lbs.

·         Bluegill/Sunfish = 0.5 lbs.

Community Crappie Derby – This event has been postponed due to a scheduling conflict.  Lake of the Ozarks has the Big Bass Bash on this same weekend, and most of our Anglers will be fishing that event.  We plan to reschedule this after the April meeting.  We will be asking for some input from other members that know the best time of the year to catch the BIG crappie!
